What this is
Eight printable flashcards for practising the C and K sound at the start of words: cup, can, cake, cut, cap, cat, king, curly.
What it helps with
The C and K sound needs the back of the tongue to lift and touch the roof of the mouth. Children who are still learning often swap it for T or D — saying “tat” for “cat” or “tea” for “key”. These cards give you eight everyday words to practise the correct back-of-tongue placement.
How to use them
- Print, cut, and laminate if you want them to last.
- Model the sound on its own first: “k-k-k”.
- Add a vowel: “k-uh”, “k-ah”, “k-ee”.
- Then try the full word from the card, stretching the first sound: “k… up”.
- Keep sessions to five minutes and make it playful — memory matches, treasure hunts, silly sentences.
When to seek support
If your child is four or older and still saying T or D for C and K across most words, a myofunctional or speech therapy assessment can help identify what’s going on.
