Jenny Hillier: the SLT & mum who made The Speech Monsters happen
Jenny is a Senior Speech and Language Therapist, mum of two, and the founder of The Speech Monsters. She built them because she needed them.
After years of using various props in clinical practice and never quite finding one that did the job, Jenny saw the need for something more interactive, more visual, and more genuinely engaging for children working on their speech sounds and phonics. So she designed her own.
Every detail was thoughtfully crafted with one goal: to create an experience that is both engaging and impactful. The moveable mouth. The adjustable tongue. The purple placement cue behind the top teeth. None of it is decoration. Each feature exists because Jenny needed it in her therapy room and couldn't find it anywhere else.

Children learn speech sounds best when they can see how they're made
Articulation is invisible. Asking a child to "put your tongue behind your teeth" is abstract, and for many children — especially those with speech delays — it just doesn't click.

What age are The Speech Monsters for?
Designed for children aged 3 and above. The soft sensory-friendly fabric, bright characters and tactile features work especially well for younger children, and the clinical features (moveable mouth, adjustable tongue, placement cue) support articulation work right through primary school age.
Are they suitable for children with additional needs?
Yes. The Speech Monsters work beautifully with neurodivergent children, including those with autism, ADHD or speech and language delays. The soft sensory-friendly design and engaging characters help children focus where traditional clinical models can feel intimidating or boring.
